But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, It is easy to dislike or hate someone who is out to hurt you in some kind of way. The world standards teach us we are supposed to hate the ones who hate us and hurt the ones who are trying to hurt us. – Matthew 5:44
But Jesus wants us to be different from the world and handle these difficult situations with love and kindness. If you love the Lord now, there was a time when you didn’t love Him. If you don’t love Him now, I pray you will love Him soon. During those times when we didn’t love Him, God loved us anyway. So He wants us to love the unloveable the same way He loved us when we were unlovable.
I must admit, at first it was hard for me to love someone who is obviously doing what they can to hurt me. But with each test, we will get stronger and love more and more. At times we will struggle, but with the help of My Savior, Jesus Christ, we’ll get closer to perfection in this area.
