Study Tip – Reading Is Excercise For the Brain

Well, school has either started or will start in your area very soon. I want to encourage you to do the best you can do. I was told, and I still believe that it’s true; “If you shoot for an “A”, and fall short, you’ll receive a “B+”. Here’s a study tip to help you get back into the swing of things after your summer vacation.

Professional athletes take very little time off from training and conditioning. They keep working even though the season is over. They stick to a workout before the kickoff, tipoff and first pitch is thrown. Why do they do it? Because they have to have their muscles ready, agility stable and the game fresh to their bodies.

Don’t just read social media content because most everyone’s posts consist of abbreviations and stuff that actually dull our brain.

Studying requires the same thing. Think of your brain as a muscle (I think I heard somewhere it is a muscle). Just as the athlete has to work out in the offseason to keep his or her muscles toned and strengthened, we have to keep our brain strong. So how do we make our brain strong?

It’s simple…Read! Don’t just read social media because most everyone’s posts consist of abbreviations and stuff that actually dull our brain. Reading strengthens our brain by increasing our overall knowledge and vocabulary. So again I write…Read.

Read a book, newspaper articles or magazines. When I was growing up, I was an avid Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Ebony, Jet, and National Geographics reader. To this day, I recall some of the articles I read depending on the situation.

Again. Read! Not just social media! Read!
