This is part of the “I’m Young. Can God Use Me?” series. This post will demonstrate how bold the three Hebrew boys were and how crazy they might have looked to others when they refused to turn against God.
If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. – Daniel 3:17
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were faced with a decision to make. Either they worshipped and image the pagan king Nebuchadnezzar had set up or be thrown into a fiery furnace. The people under the king’s rule were commanded to worship an image he set up when they heard music being played (Daniel 3:5). If the people didn’t worship the image they would be thrown into a furnace. The three Hebrew boys refused to worship the image and they were brought before the king. Keep in mind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had been set up in the palace because of the skills God had blessed them with (Daniel 1:17-21). So we can say they had good jobs and a lot to lose, including their lives.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” – Daniel 3:16-18
When the king heard they refused to worship the image, he became angry and questioned them. They still refused to worship the image. They told king Nebuchadnezzar they weren’t going to worship his god even if it cost them their lives. You can imagine how crazy they must have looked to the king and the people of Babylon.
If you believe in Jesus being your Savior, there will be times when you will have to make a choice. Either stand for your belief or not. There will be times when you will be faced with losing some things or suffer a little bit because you believe. Your friends and some family members might leave you. You might have to sit alone in the cafeteria. But that’s okay. Just as God delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:19-30), God will give you some new friends, ease your pain and suffering, and set you up even higher for being crazy enough to stand for your belief in Him.
